New E3 Education Center Opens In Olney

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new neighborhood center has opened in Olney/Logan to help get young people get back on track.

Late last winter, Markeef Howard, 20, decided he had enough. He couldn't stand the conditions in his high school -- the noise, violence, and confusion -- so he quit,  just walked out.

Then he heard about the new E3 center on Old York Road and decided to join the GED and job skills program there.

"It's just more peaceful in here. The less kids in a classroom, the more I can learn."

E3 means Empowerment, Education and Employment. Director Denise Savage says there are about 55 students.

"We've actually had a lot of parents walking in and saying this kid is not doing anything; I want to put them in a program."
