Corbett Fires Back At Rendell Criticism
By Tony Romeo
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - Governor Corbett has some strong words for his predecessor, after Ed Rendell's recent criticisms of Corbett's changes to food stamp policies. And, Corbett is also speaking out on the effort by a Rendell-led group to gain control of Philadelphia's daily newspapers.
Despite his assertion that he wouldn't comment on his successor unless attacked, Ed Rendell was back in Harrisburg in January, taking part in a news conference to criticize Governor Corbett's planned changes to food stamp eligibility rules.
Thursday, on WPHT's Dom Giordano Show, Corbett fired back and also said he does not think it's a good idea for a politician to buy a newspaper.
"Because – and I can't believe I'm saying this – I look for newspapers to be objective."
Giordano: "(guffaws) Come on now, governor!"
Corbett: "Ed will always be a politician. He hasn't liked some of the things I've done. He's spoken up. Okay, that's fine. I didn't like some of the things he did when I was attorney general and I think I kept my counsel."
Corbett says Rendell ran things his way, and that he, Corbett, runs things his own way, and that obviously their ways are different.
