Goodwill 'Job Club' Helps Area Job Seekers Navigate the Process
By Mike DeNardo
MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (CBS) -- People in the midst of a job search don't have to go it alone. There is help.
The Goodwill Job Club is a place where people who are looking for work can find out what jobs are available, and can get help landing one. It's free, and it's available to anyone from ex-CEOs to dishwashers.
At the Goodwill store in Maple Shade, job developer Cheryl Burr (top photo) surveys employers on their needs, and then walks candidates through the process.
"We let them know, 'This is where you need to go. This is what you need to do. This is what they're looking for.' We sit with them if they need to go on the computer, if they need to fill out an application online. We'll work with them that way," she tells KYW Newsradio.
Job seeker Steve Frizzie of Willingboro, NJ says his Job Club training in Microsoft Office is already paying off:
"One of the great things about this right now is, my typing skills have improved tremendously. And that's helping me out, making me feel more confident."
Goodwill Job Club is open on Tuesdays in Stratford, NJ and Wednesdays in Maple Shade, from 10 am to 2 pm. More information is available at goodwillnj.org.
