PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- WPHT's Dom Giordano spoke with Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell on Thursday about a proposed resolution by City Council to promote Howard Zinn's book A People's History of the United States in Philadelphia public schools.
The resolution was spearheaded by Councilwoman Blackwell and Councilman Jim Kenney.
Blackwell was happy to bring the proposal before City Council, saying, "It's because it's such a candid book. Howard Zinn is a person who has been a civil rights fighter during his whole adult life."
During the conversation, Giordano pointed out that Howard Zinn wrote positively about Fidel Castro and his regime in Cuba.
"Castro did not do everything wrong," Blackwell responded, "or he would not have lasted so long."
When discussing immigration during Castro's regime, Blackwell said that a lot of Cubans came to America because, "They did not want to live in a (Cuban) society where no matter what your color is, all people are the same."
