Comcast Makes Your DVR Mobile
By Ian Bush
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Comcast is set to unveil a new feature today for some customers in the Philadelphia area that the cable giant promises will put your favorite TV shows closer within reach when you're at home or on the go.
Your DVR is now portable: "They'll be able to check out their DVR shows from their DVR at home, download it to a mobile device, and take it with them."
Frank Purcell with Comcast says you can throw up to 10 programs at once on an iPad, an Android handheld, and the like -- with no connection needed to consume content on the train, on a plane, "on a beach -- anywhere you might not have access to the Internet."
You can do it all using the Xfinity TV app, which customers also now can use to stream nearly every channel on a Comcast cable package.
"It basically turns every screen in your home into a personal TV."
The upgrade is only for bill-payers on the X1 platform.
It comes as Comcast and other big players in the industry look to the cloud and mobile features to give would-be cord-cutters pause.
