Chip Kelly On Mariota Pursuit: 'Didn't Think It Was Going To Happen'

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The newest member of the Philadelphia Eagles is Nelson Agholor, not Marcus Mariota. The Eagles were unable to pull off a move for Chip Kelly's former pupil, but it doesn't sound like they did not try.

Kelly addressed the media following the Eagles selection of Agholor at 20 overall. Despite the pick, Kelly probably fielded more questions about the player he did not get as opposed to the player he picked.

The Eagles head coach was very straight forward when explaining the team's pursuit of Mariota.

"I didn't think it was going to happen, and it didn't happen," Kelly said of getting Mariota to Philadelphia. "We had a conversation with both teams at the front, but it was way too steep to do anything.  It didn't get very serious, to be honest with you."

Kelly described their interest in Mariota as driving around and seeing a house you like, but knowing the price is too high and not even going in to take a look.

Kelly also addressed a quarterback that is on his roster tonight, Sam Bradford. Kelly described Bradford as being "on schedule," with his rehab and looks forward to getting on the field with Bradford for the first time on Monday.
