Allen Iverson Picks Larry Brown As His Favorite Sixers Moment
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Allen Iverson's jump shot, and subsequent stepping over of Tyronn Lue in the NBA Finals is what I, and I imagine many Sixers fans would choose as their favorite basketball moment of his Philadelphia career. The "talkin' about practice" press conference would have to rank first in terms of off-the-court moments.
When asked what Iverson himself would choose as his favorite moment of his Sixers career, he chose neither.
"I would say my favorite moment was when they [the Sixers] hired Larry Brown," Iverson told Ayla Brown, who sings the National Anthem at Sixers games. Iverson returned to Philadelphia to appear at his bobblehead night for the Sixers game against the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday night. "When they hired Larry Brown because he took my game to another level. His knowledge of basketball took me to another level as far as being a player. I'm grateful to him and that's why I feel like that was the best moment, as far as being a Sixer. I really should be thanking Pat Croce for bringing him in, so I thank Pat Croce."
Iverson's relationship with Brown was famously rocky at first, so much so that Iverson was nearly traded to the Pistons in 2000. Thankfully for both Brown and Iverson, the traded didn't happen, and they ended up in the 2001 NBA Finals. Pat Croce was said to be the one who was able to broker peace between the two.
