Activists Gather At LOVE Park in Center City To Rally For Gun Control
By Mike Dougherty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Dozens of activists gathered at LOVE Park in Center City Saturday afternoon to rally for strong gun control legislation.
"We demand action now!"
Members of a few different groups attended the rally calling for universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons.
Dorothy Johnson-Speight, founder of Mothers in Charge, has been on the front lines in the war against gun violence since her son was gunned down 10 years ago.
"This is not about people who responsibly own guns. This is about the guns being in the hands of people that should not have them."
Christine Licata is with Moms Demand Action:
"I think it's important that our voices be heard. We have been the silent majority for a long time and it's time that we are no longer silent."
She and other activists here hope their message is heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill so the Senate moves swiftly to pass stronger gun laws.
