Academy Of Natural Sciences Ranked Second Best Science Museum In U.S.

By Chelsea Karnash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Whether you're actually super smart or just like to think you are, you should probably be spending more time at the Academy of Natural Sciences.

The Philadelphia museum, which is officially called the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, was ranked the second best science museum in the country by Mensa, an organization for those uber-intelligent people who score in the top two-percent on a standardized test.

According to ANSP's website, Mensa presented a list of 30 U.S. science museums to a list of educators and scientists, who then considered interactive learning opportunities, exhibit variety and other factors when determining which were tops.

First on the list was the National Air and Space Museum in D.C., but ANSP earned the second spot largely due to its array of interactive exhibits.

If you're heading over this summer, check out the "Glow: Living Lights" exhibit on bioluminescence (that pretty phenomenon that makes fireflies light up), or the 6th annual Bug Fest in August. In terms of permanent installations, make sure to see the huge T. Rex replica, the butterfly garden and at least some of the more than 18 million plant and animal specimens housed inside the country's oldest natural history museum.
