A Simpler Process is Promised As Obamacare Enrollment Is Set to Reopen

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Health care advocates are gearing up for the new insurance enrollment period in the Affordable Care Act.

Sign-ups begin Saturday.

Last year, federal officials set a goal of enrolling seven million people in health insurance through the ACA.

They surpassed that goal, and there are now 10 million fewer uninsured in this country.

Maura Collinsgru, of the New Jersey Coalition for Health Care, says she hopes the number will go down even more this year.

"With the experience and capacity that has been increased over this past year, we're very hopeful that we're going to see a very good enrollment period going forward," she said today.

The coalition has launched a new web site, www.covernj.org, to help.

So has the Pennsylvania Health Access Network. PHAN director Antoinette Krauss says the process will be simpler this time, and there are twice as many plans to choose from.

"We've seen more insurers enter the market, so there are new, affordable options for folks," she said.

A kickoff event is planned for noon Saturday at the Northern Liberties Community Center.
