1 of 2 Brothers Nabbed in Septa Elevated Train Shooting
By Steve Tawa
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police confirm that they have picked up one of two brothers who were allegedly involved in last week's shooting on a SEPTA elevated train in West Philadelphia.
Police say the younger brother, 16-year-old Eric Early, was being questioned at Southwest Detectives and was expected to be charged.
Officials say Eric and his 18-year-old brother, Matthew, may be the pair caught on surveillance video as they exited the train just before one turns and fires into the crowded El car (see related stories).
According to investigators, it began with "trash talking" after a 76ers' game. Police say a 36-year-old man wearing a Chicago Bulls jersey was on the Market-Frankford train, on his way home, when two teenagers began mixing it up with him.
Their words turned to profanities, and the older man said, "Listen, this train's filled with people, there's young kids, there's ladies, you need to watch your mouth, young boy."
Then, a man behind him said, "Listen, it's not worth it. These young boys, just let's cool out."
When the train stopped at 46th and Market Streets, police say, the teens got off the train and one of them turned and fired a shot into the train car.
That shot hit both men -- the bullet went through one victim's stomach and hit the other in the thigh.
Police were still looking for the older Early brother (right), alleged to be the gunman.
