Why He Joined Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera, the controversial Arab television news network, has caused quite a bit of buzz with its soon to be launched English-language channel, Al Jazeera International, which has recruited the likes of David Frost, formerly of BBC and Dave Marash, formerly of ABC News' "Nightline." In today's New York Daily News, Marash explains, in the aptly titled, "Why I Joined Al-Jazeera," well, why he joined Al Jazeera.

It's worth reading the whole thing, but here's the short answer: "… it offers me a unique opportunity to communicate the reality of events everywhere in the world to a unique global audience."

Further, Marash explains that Al Jazeera will aspire to be what most cable news isn't:

"Al Jazeera International will do fewer stories each half hour than our cable news competitors, and our selection is likely to be different. Hopefully, this will allow us to probe a little bit deeper into stories that matter, to add some real value to your information bank."
