Western Manhunt: Body Found
Authorities in Utah believe they've found the body of one of two survivalists who had been target of a massive manhunt, reports Correspondent Bob Martin of CBS Affiliate KRQE-TV. The body is set for autopsy Tuesday afternoon in Salt Lake City.
The two survivalists had been sought in a multi-state manhunt after allegedly gunning down a Colorado police officer in May 1998. They had been able to elude hundreds of searchers in rugged western terrain.
It was deer hunters on the last day of the season who stumbled across the scene — the spot where it's believed Alan "Monte" Pilon took his own life very shortly after the shootout.
Authorities are confident that the remains belong to either Pilon or Jason McVean. A positive identification is expected to take several days. There is no word on the whereabouts of the other suspect.
