Tylenol recalled again over "musty smell"
(CBS/AP) Johnson & Johnson just can't seem to solve problems with its Tylenol brand. On Tuesday the drug maker announced the recall of more than 60,000 bottles of the popular pain-killer, citing a musty odor as the reason for the action.
The recall involves Tylenol Extra Strength Caplets made in February 2009 and distributed across the U.S. In all, 60,912 bottles of Tylenol were recalled, each of which contains 225 caplets.
J&J's McNeil division said it had gotten reports about the odor, which has been linked in past recalls to the presence of traces of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole. The compound - a byproduct of a chemical preservative used on shipping pallets - has been linked to transient gastrointestinal symptoms.
Since September 2009, Johnson & Johnson has had about two dozen recalls of prescription and over-the-counter drugs, replacement hips, contact lenses, and diabetes test strips.
