T'Wolves Beat Pistons 115-113 In 2OT

Stephon Marbury kept the Minnesota Timberwolves close, Kevin Garnett put them over the top.

Garnett's corner jumper with 1.2 seconds left in the second overtime gave the Minnesota Timberwolves a 115-113 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday.

"That was one of those games that keeps going and going," Garnett said. "Luckily Stephon gave me a nice pass and I hit it and got out of there."

Garnett had 26 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists for the Wolves, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Joe Dumars led the Pistons with a season-high 28 points, but Detroit lost for the eighth time in its last nine road games. Brian Williams had 22 points and 12 rebounds.

"We can't get over the hump in close games," Detroit coach Alvin Gentry said."Stephon had a helluva game. He made the big shots whenever they needed them."

Marbury scored 10 of his 26 points in the two overtimes but missed shots that could have ended the game at the end of both regulation time and the first overtime.

"I had a sluggish start at the beginning but I let the game come to me and I was able to have a good game at the end," he said.

Marbury hit a 3-pointer that gave the Wolves a 113-109 lead with 1:04 left. Dumars brought the Pistons to 113-111, and Jerome Williams tied it on a pair of free throws with 18.1 seconds left.

Marbury then drove the lane, feeding Garnett in the corner for a 21-foot jumper. The game ended after Marbury deflected Grant Hill's inbounds pass.

"They'd been running at Steph because he was getting hot, so we told him to penetrate and dish the ball to (Garnett)," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said.

Garnett's defender, Jerome Williams, had left to help out on Marbury.

"I was surprised at the room I had," Garnett said.

Marbury had 11 assists for Minnesota.

Neither team led by more than six points at any point in the game.

Cherokee Parks tipped in a missed shot by Marbury with 14.7 seconds left in regulation, tying the game at 89-89. Tom Hammonds stripped the ball from Williams on Detroit's next possession, and Marbury's jumper from the corner bounced off the rim at the buzzer.

Lindsey Hunter scored five straight points early in the first overtime, giving the Pistons a 94-91 lead. But Hunter fouled out with 1:51 left in the first extra period, and Marbury ran off five straight points to give Minnesota a 100-98 lead.

Brian Williams dunked in a miss by Hill with 14 seconds left, tying the game at 100-100, and Marbury missed an off-balance 10-footer as time expired.
