Turn Vista's Sleep Button into a Power Button

Last Updated Nov 13, 2008 12:00 PM EST

  1. Go to Control Panel.
  2. Go to Power Options.
  3. Click Change plan settings for your selected power plan.
  4. Click Change advanced power settings.
  5. Expand Power buttons and lid.
  6. Expand Start menu power button.
  7. Change the setting from Sleep to Shut down.
  8. Click OK.
Done! Man, way to bury that setting, Microsoft. Here's a suggestion for Windows 7: Add a friggin' Shut Down button to the Start menu! Or let us right-click that "power button" and choose what function we want it to have. Sheesh! Yeah, damn right I'm mad. [via Digital Inspiration]
