Tracy Smith: Saturday's New Face

CBS News correspondent Tracy Smith has been named co-anchor of The Saturday Early Show and national correspondent for The Early Show.

Andrew Heyward, president of CBS News, made the announcement Tuesday, Aug. 2. The anchor job has been vacant since Gretchen Carlson resigned to join another network.

"This is a terrific opportunity for both Tracy and CBS News," said Heyward. "Her proven ability to report on a wide range of topics from breaking news to lifestyle issues makes her uniquely qualified for this position."

Smith joined CBS News in 2000 as a correspondent for The Early Show. She has covered major news stories, including Campaign '04, the war in Iraq, the crash of American Airlines flight 587 in Queens, N.Y., the Sept. 11 attacks, and the March 2001 school shooting in Santee, Calif. She has done numerous multi-part series on a variety of issues such as Megan's Law, and mothers dealing with stress at home and in the workplace. Smith also contributes to Study Hall, a bi-monthly report on teen issues. In addition, she has contributed to CBS News Sunday Morning.

The Saturday Early Show airs from 7 to 9 a.m. ET/PT (check local listings) on the CBS Television Network.
