Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six

What do computer games have in common with upcoming movies? I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. Months before they are released, the previews begin. And there is a lot of anticipation over an upcoming CD ROM game titled Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. It is almost like the clamor over a Clancy book or movie. As a matter of fact there will be a Rainbow Six book released at about the same time.

Clancy's chief partner in Red Storm Entertainment is Doug Littlejohns a former anti-submarine surface ship commander and Commodore in the British Royal Navy. Littlejohns says players will get a chance to lead an elite international anti-terrorist squadÂ…..

"Which actually governments have been talking about forming for years but never have been able to agree to the terms"

The game revolves around an increasingly difficult number of missionsÂ…

"Starting off with very easy ones and working up to a game where you actually have to stop the world being contaminated by nasty bacteria. And the game is divided into two parts. It's a single player game but it can also be played multi-player. You have teams of eight and you start by being given a mission objective. You then go onto a 3D blueprint screen where you select your team members who are appropriate for that mission depending on their skill levels."

Littlejohns says running a software company, believe it or not, is in some ways similar to running a Navy shipÂ…

"The average age of a submarine crew is around 23, 24. The average age of the people in a software company is around 26, 27. They're very similar people. Highly intelligent, very motivated."

Even if their styles of dress differ a bit. You can find more information at redstorm.com.
