Tigers Sign Mlicki For $15.5M
Pitcher Dave Mlicki, who was eligible for salary arbitration this winter, has signed a three-year, $14 million deal with the Detroit Tigers.
The right-hander, who went 14-12 last season with a 4.60 ERA, will also receive a $1.5 million signing bonus.
The contract pays Mlicki $4 million next season, $4.8 million in 2001 and $5.2 million in 2002. If he gets traded, his salary increases by $500,000 per season.
The signing of Mlicki leaves five Tigers eligible for arbitration, including shortstop Deivi Cruz, outfielder Karim Garcia and left-handed pitcher C.J. Nitkowski.
Right-handed pitcher Danny Patterson and catcher Gregg Zaun also are eligible for arbitration. The Tigers received them from the Texas Rangers in a Nov. 2 trade that also brought Juan Gonzalez to Detroit.
In another move, the Tigers signed pitcher Nelson Cruz to a one-year deal that will pay the right-hander $250,000 if he pitches in the major leagues next season and $127,500 if he pitches in the minors.
