Three New Must-Have iPhone Apps

easy-wi-fi.jpgOh, iPhone, I do love you so. Not just because you're cool and sexy, but also because of all the incredibly useful apps you can run. Like these three, all of which just happen to be free:

  • AroundMe AroundMe taps the iPhone's GPS to determine your location, then provides a categorical list of nearby businesses and services: banks, coffee shops, hospitals, and so on. You can see any listing on a map, add it to your contact list, dial the phone number, or even e-mail it to someone. Impossibly handy.
  • Easy Wi-Fi iPhone users get all the AT&T Wi-Fi access they can eat -- but getting configured and connected once you're in a hotspot is a huge pain in the neck. Easy Wi-Fi makes the process easy indeed: Just enter your phone number and the app does the rest.
  • Melodis Voice Dialer It's pretty ridiculous that a phone as powerful as the iPhone lacks voice dialing, but there it is. Of all the third-party apps to offer that capability, I like the new Melodis Voice Dialer best. For one thing, it's free. For another, it's incredibly easy to use: Just tap and hold a button and say a name, then choose the desired contact from the search results. Or, to auto-dial, say "call" and then the name.
While we're on the subject, don't miss my list of five essential productivity apps for the iPhone. Then hit the Comments and let me know which apps totally light your iPhone fire. Lemme guess: Urbanspoon. Yeah, I love that one, too.
