The Trendy Baby

If you're a parent, you know the number of baby products on the market can be a little overwhelming. There are so many great things out there to choose from! Jessica Hartshorn, Lifestyles Editor of American Baby Magazine, helps sort through the latest trends.

With the latest push towards green living comes a trend focused on eco-friendly and organic baby accessories. "I think a lot of adults start to think about organic and natural products when they have a baby because... they seem so new and so fragile," says Hartshorn. While organic baby food sells very well, some companies are now making toys made from organic cotton.

Some people may worry about the price of an organic cotton toy or piece of clothing. "It can be more expensive, but Walmart, for instance, has organic baby clothes," says Harshorn. One reason that many parents are buying organic cotton for their children is that they don't want them to wear anything that may irritate their baby's delicate, sensitive skin.

Another new trend? Pacifiers with a little bling. One of the most popular designs is a skull and crossbones. Harshorn believes the baby bling trend was sparked by America's obsession with Hollywood. "When Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had their baby Shiloh, there was talk in the papers that they had a diamond encrusted pacifier," says Harshorn. These rhinestone studded soothers have been flying off the shelves ever since.
