"The Hangover Part II" vs. "Kung Fu Panda 2": Which movie's viral clips packs more punch?

(CBS/What's Trending) - Two blockbuster sequels hit the box office this weekend, buddy comedy "The Hangover Part II" and animated panda flick "Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom." How much anticipation have they built up for their silver screen debuts? Audiences can watch film trailers online anytime they want, making online video performance a good indication of overall film buzz. So let's get to data to find out!

"The Hangover Part II" has raked in an impressive 30.4 million views to date. There are over 640 clips related to the film online. The most-watched clip for the campaign has 3.7 million views, coming from ColliderVideos on YouTube. For comparison, the original Hangover only had 1.8 million views when it released.

One of the more interesting clips of the campaign features Crystal the Monkey on the red carpet. "Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom" has less overall views than "The Hangover Part II,"  coming in at 21.5 million views. The animated martial arts comedy has inspired nearly 700 total clips across the Web, the most-watched coming from cleverTV on YouTube with 7.4 million views. For comparison, recently released animated comedy "Rio" had 12 million online video views when it hit the box office. "Gnomeo and Juliet" released with a total 3.2 million views under its belt. Trending or Ending?

Total views are only part of the story for upcoming films. We took a look at their daily view counts to find out if anticipation is trending in the right direction.

As you can see from the chart above, both films had a spike in views in mid May.

"Kung Fu Panda's" spike was from a new interview of Jack Black while "The Hangover Part II" benefited from new TV spots that made their way online. Both films have generated an increase in views over the past two weeks, with the most dramatic jumps coming in the past two days. Conclusion? These films are definitely trending!
