The Boss Is Back!

Bruce Springsteen is a Jersey boy through and through, reports CBS This Morning Co-Anchor Mark McEwen. He makes people from New Jersey hold their heads high and thatÂ's why they love him.

"When we go to a concert, itÂ's like going to a concert with 20,000 people who are your friends. EverybodyÂ's gonna rock Â'n roll," said one middle-aged fan.

And roll they did Thursday night in New Jersey. Reunited with his E Street Band for the first time in over 10 years, Springsteen was up to his old tricks, keeping his fans on their feet for over three hours, playing 26 songs with three encores. Fourteen of them were Springsteen classics, recorded in 1980 or before

Â"The fact that Bruce is selling out shows 20 years later makes sense,Â" says Rolling Stone contributing editor Anthony DeCurtis. Â"He was always in it for the long haul. He wasnÂ't a guy that wanted to make music that came and went.Â"

It was the first night in what may prove to be a record-setting nationwide concert series. Springsteen has already sold out the first 15 shows at the Continental Airlines Arena in his home state of New Jersey — a new industry standard. Fans snapped up all 300,000 available tickets in just 13 hours in May.

Those fans greeted the star known as "The Boss" and the band with unabashed glee. Some arrived as much as a day early to hold parties in the arena parking lot.

After New Jersey, Springsteen and the band will take their tour to Detroit, Boston, Washington and Philadelphia.

Â"I think people are hungry for a big rock and roll show,Â" says DeCurtis, Â"and you know thatÂ's what Bruce is about. ItÂ's about stepping up. ThatÂ's why people are excited, excited about what he represents, excited the E Street Band is here. So this is a major concert. You know itÂ's the show of the summer.Â"
