The Amazing Race
It's time for the premiere of "The Amazing Race" on CBS. The 12 teams of two are set to travel the globe, getting dropped off from sea planes to start off the show with a bang.
The teams are:
All right that is everyone. There is a lot going on in the first episode with all of the people and running around, so I will give you the basic info or you would be reading until next week's episode, and my fingers would fall off.
The first challenge is for all teams to get to the airport ASAP to go to Beijing. The first flight operated by United gets in an hour earlier than the Korean Air flight. Half of the teams gets on United, the other half get on Korean Air.
Already, team Lyn and Karlyn and making comments about how Sarah (the team member with the artificial leg) can run but she can't wait in line like the rest of the teams! This disability rubs people the wrong way.
The first road block. The challenge is: one team member must eat a Chinese delicacy, which is fish eyes! After they finish all the fish eyes they will get a clue that leads them to the meridian gate where they will each take a time at which they will be leaving in the morning. One by one, the teams seem to polish off the fish eyes faster than I thought they would. Everyone heads over the gate and most pull a 7 a.m. start time. Team Miss USA had a bad driver on the way over and was taken to the wrong place. Bilal and Sa'eed were the last team to arrive and were eliminated before the pit stop! Host Phil said there will be surprises along the way, and I guess this is the first. Way to start the show off with a bang to say the least!
Everyone says a kind goodbye to Bilal and Sa'eed.
It's a new day and the teams who pulled a 7 a.m. start time are off. Sarah is having trouble with her artificial leg. It seems the hydraulics aren't getting to the knee properly, which makes it harder for her to run.
DETOUR!
There are two options: labor or leisure. Labor consists of going 1 mile in a petty cab and paving a 45-square-foot sidewalk in a particular pattern. Leisure consists of going 2 miles in a petty cab, and learning and performing a Chinese relaxation exercise. All teams pick labor except Tom and Terry, and Kellie and Jamie. Everyone seems to be having some trouble with the pattern for the sidewalk, and I have to admit it looks a lot harder than I thought it would be.
After they complete the task, they are on their way to the pit stop!
But first they have to scale the great wall. Wow, what a great couple days to start this show. The wall goes straight up, so even the best climbers would have some trouble. Sarah seems to struggle the most because of her leg, but she makes it up in time.
The first team to arrive is Tyler and James, and they win $20,000. Go team models! Second to arrive are Duke and Lauren. Go father and daughter! Third to arrive are Peter and Sarah. Go team athletic!!
The rest all arrive in no time, except Vipul and Artie, the Indian married couple. They had a tough time figuring out the pattern for the pavement and it knocked them into last place, so they are eliminated.
What an episode. It will be interesting to see who the top teams are because anyone who knows "The Amazing Race" knows that every week is a surprise with who will be first.
