Yuma International Airport KPHO

(CBS/AP) YUMA, Ariz. - A U.S. Army private tried to bring a small amount of explosives on board a United Airlines flight from Arizona to Los Angeles Wednesday and was arrested, authorities say.

U.S. Attorney's spokesman Robbie Sherwood says 19-year-old Pfc. Christopher Eric Wey was detained after Transportation Security Administration screeners at the airport in Yuma found about a quarter-ounce of military explosives in his bags.

Pfc. Wey was charged Thursday with attempting to carry some C4 explosive onto an aircraft and transporting a stolen explosive. A criminal complaint alleges the solider stole the explosive at a

recent training course, and that there's no sign he intended to harm anyone.
