REDMOND, Wash. (AP) Slate, Microsoft Corp.'s online magazine, has signed a distribution agreement with The New York Times Syndicate.
As of May 1, Slate will become the first Internet-based magazine to join the Times' global syndicate, Michael Kinsley, Slate's editor in chief, said Tuesday.
The New York Times Syndicate distributes more than 80 columns, features and news services to more than 2,000 news organizations. Among its columnists are Kinsley's boss, Microsoft chairman and co-founder Bill Gates.
Kinsley also said that since Slate started charging $19.95 for full access to its site on the Internet six weeks ago, it now has 20,000 paid subscribers. Previously, there was no charge to read the online magazine.
