Skype bug sends messages to unrelated contacts, fix coming company says
(CBS News) Skype users have reported that their messages are being re-directed to third-party contacts, which in some cases are not connected. Several users reported the bug in a support thread last week.
Skype is software that lets users make calls over the Internet, video chat and send instant messages.
The potential for social awkwardness is a major concern for several users, as one support member writes, "messages from one of my contacts went to another, as being sent by me."
It's been speculated that the bug may have been caused by a Skype upgrade last month, but at this point any conclusions would just be conjecture.
The good news is that a fix is on its way. A spokesperson for Skype released this statement to CBS News:
"We are aware in rare circumstances IM's between two contacts could be sent to an unintended third contact. We are rolling out a fix for this issue in the next few days and will notify our users to download an updated version of Skype."
The bad news is that awkward messages may have already been sent on your behalf. Several of the users say they found out they were victims of the bug by checking their chat history.
