Sheriff: Bones found in Ohio home's fire pit are missing woman's

ASHTABULA, Ohio -- Authorities in Ohio have identified remains found in a backyard fire pit as those of an 18-year-old woman reported missing in late July.

Ashtabula County Sheriff William Johnson said at a news conference Thursday that the bones found in the fire pit and a wooded area during a drug raid Aug. 20 are those of Alesha Bell of Warren. The home where the remains were found is in Roaming Shores, about 30 miles north of Warren in northeast Ohio.

James Brooks, a 40-year-old man who lived in the home, was arrested during the raid, reports CBS Cleveland affiliate WOIO. He's been charged with multiple counts of having weapons as a convicted felon and tampering with evidence and is being held on a $700,000 bond.

Bell's relatives have said Bell and Brooks knew each other.

CBS Youngstown affiliate WKBN reports Bell was last seen on July 23. Her mother told the station the last text she received from her daughter said, "Mom, if I make it home, I need you. I'm scared."
