Shakira asks N.Y. judge to throw out ex's $250M suit
The legal drama continues between Shakira and her ex-boyfriend/manager.
The 35-year-old performer and judge on "The Voice" is asking a New York judge to throw out a $250 million lawsuit filed by Antonio de La Rua, the son of former Argentine President Fernando de la Rua.
He dated Shakira for more than a decade before they splitin 2011.
Several months after they parted ways, Shakira began dating Spanish pro soccer player Gerard Pique, 25. In January of this year, she gave birthto the couple's first child, son Milan.
At the time of her break-up with de la Rua, Shakira wrote on her website, "We view this period of separation as temporary and as a time of individual growth as we continue to be partners in our business and professional lives."
Looks like that didn't happen.
De la Rua has been waging an international war against his ex, saying he shaped the "Shakira brand."
The Daily News reports that Shakira said in court papers filed in Manhattan that she does not owe her success to de la Rua.
She says he was just one of her numerous advisers.
