Schwarzenegger Released From Hospital

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was released from a hospital four days after he underwent surgery to repair a fractured leg suffered while skiing.

Schwarzenegger, 59, expects to walk with crutches when he is sworn in Friday to begin his second term as California's governor. The governor left the hospital about 5 p.m. local time Saturday and traveled to his home in Los Angeles, Schwarzenegger spokeswoman Julie Soderlund said.

In a statement released by his office Saturday night, Schwarzenegger said the injury had not dampened his optimism for the coming year.

The Austrian-born Schwarzenegger will have a full agenda following the holiday weekend.

His two-day inauguration bash — complete with kickoff party, legislative luncheon, swearing-in ceremony and black-tie gala — begins Thursday.

Following that, he is scheduled to deliver his State of the State address on Jan. 9, and present his budget proposal Jan. 10.

Schwarzenegger fractured his right thigh bone last weekend while skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho. In a 90-minute operation Tuesday, doctors at St. John's Health Center used screws and cables to link the broken fragments of the bone.

It was the governor's third medical problem in less than a year.

In January, he needed 15 stitches to repair a cut lip after his motorcycle collided with a car near his Los Angeles home. Last December, he spent several hours at a hospital with a rapid heartbeat after coming down with stomach flu.
