Run Your Classic Palm OS Apps on the Palm Pre

If you've had your eye on the Palm Pre, you probably know that the awkwardly named handset has access to the whole library of classic Palm OS apps thanks to Classic, a Palm OS emulator from Motion Apps. One concern a lot of people have had, though, is whether their particular favorite apps would work in the emulated environment of Classic. We're now a big step closer to knowing the answer.

Motion Apps has fired up two tools for prospective Palm Pre users. There's a Classic Certified logo program that developers can enroll in, and an app compat database called the Classic Well. The Well is a community-driven database; anyone can add an entry to the site and vote on the apps already there. I poked around the Well a bit and found that it's still something of a ghost town, but as users start to bring their classic Palm OS apps into the Pre, it should become more vibrant.

While you're investigating Palm's newest smartphone, be sure to take our tour of the Pre's App Catalog and read the five most important things you should know about the Pre.
