Robert Klein's "Unfair and Unbalanced" Debut

Robert Klein has entertained live audiences since 1970, and was the first comedian to have his own comedy special on HBO in 1975. This Saturday, he does it again on HBO with his ninth special, "Unfair and Unbalanced," a combination of standup and music that shows that throughout the years, Klein still knows how to make us laugh.

Klein said on "The Early Show" that HBO, a pay channel, opened a new world for comedians.

"(HBO included) obviously risque material. I'm in the particularly profane, but we are adults and profanity is an important part of the language when it's used aptly, not as a substitute for wit. I open the torrents. Now even cowboys say things I don't think cowboys ever said. But yet the absence of profanity when it's apt can be - 'The Sopranos' has been sold to A&E where it's completely is an anaesthetized. A man gives you the bird and suddenly he's an amputee. They blur it out. 'Forget you.' 'Forget your mother,' 'forget' -- you know, there's a lot of forgetting on the A&E 'Sopranos.'"

"Early Show" co-anchor Harry Smith joked, "I wondered how they would pull that off."

However, in his current show, some things have changed about Klein's comedy.
"I'm getting older," he explained. "I'm now a geezer. I'm geezer-ized over the years, so my interests change a little."

"Unfair and Unbalanced" premieres Saturday, June 12, on HBO, 10 p.m. Eastern, 11 p.m. Pacific.
