(CBS) It was a nice idea while it lasted, but "Parks and Recreation" executive producer Michael Schur put the kibosh on rumors that Rob Lowe could take over for Charlie Sheen on "Two and a Half Men."

The Hollywood Reporter writes that that Schur said Lowe, who joined "Parks and Recreation" this season, has a multi-year contract that prevents him from taking a gig on "Two and a Half Men." He also said that the rumor was just that: a rumor, and totally unfounded.

"The Internet lit a match and set itself on fire," he said.

Sheen said in a radio interview Wednesday that he'd talked to Lowe and endorsed him as a replacement.

Among the other names floating in the internets as possible replacements for the erstwhile "Two and a Half Men" star are John Stamos and Jerry O'Connell. On "The Tonight Show," Jay Leno aired a comedy bit that had Donny Osmond replace Sheen's character with a more wholesome Osmond-like guy.
