Rick Schroder Joins Cast Of '24'

Actor Rick Schroder has joined the cast of FOX's "24," the network said Monday. The sixth season of the hit series begins Jan. 14.

Schroder has most recently appeared in Lifetime's "Strong Medicine" and on NBC's "Scrubs." He also played Det. Danny Sorenson on "NYPD Blue" from 1998-2001.

Schroder, who began his career starring opposite Jon Voight in the film "The Champ," will play forceful CTU operative Mike Doyle, who teams with Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) to execute crucial field operations.

There are many other notables who are joining the cast this season, including Chad Lowe, Powers Boothe, Peter MacNicol, Regina King, James Cromwell and Kal Penn among others.

It was previously announced that actress Jean Smart and Gregory Itzin are returning, while Eric Balfour ("Six Feet Under") and Carlo Rota are reprising their respective roles as CTU contractors.
