Punxsutawney, Where?

Along Interstate 80, you'll find miles of rolling hills and farm country. But don't fly off into Panic, and while Desire and Harmony may both look tempting, keep on going. They are simply some of the other towns of western Pennsylvania's Jefferson County.

There are few places left in America where the word "skyscraper" means an eight-story building; Punxsutawney is one of those places.

Located at the junction of Route 36 and Route 119 in Jefferson County, it is best known as the home of Punxsy Phil, the "prognosticator of prognosticators" and the site of the Groundhog Day festivities.

Punxsutawney itself is a small rural town with a population of less than 10,000. Originally engaged in farming and logging, the town saw some prosperity with the mining boom of the early 20th century. A scaled down version of its former self, the Punxsutawney of today is a quiet and clean community.
