Post a Multimedia Portfolio, Find Your Next Job at Raveal
It seems that everything these days claims to be "not your father's" something-or-other. Cadillacs, Star Trek, and now Raveal. Raveal is a Monster-like job site that lets you sell yourself with a profile, resume, and 100MB portfolio of your actual work.
Much of Raveal will be pretty familiar to anyone who has posted their wares online in search of a job. You set up a profile that includes your specialties, professional level, years of experience, geographic location, and other details, then build a resume, one block of experience at a time.
The real fun happens when you get to the portfolio: You can create a gallery, give it a title, and then upload pretty much any kind of files, from Office docs to graphics or photos to Flash to HTML. Instead of describing your experience, Raveal lets you actually show it off.
I really like the site, though it's only going to be successful for you if prospective employers buy into it as well, and I don't know that it's passed that particular test yet.
Moreover, despite its forward-looking design, the profile seems strangely restrictive. When I tried configuring a specialty, for example, I found just over two dozen options, and there was nothing appropriate for me. Specifically, no journalism -- the closest I could find was copywriter, or perhaps the catch-all "communication." I suppose I'll come back after they've had a chance to work out some of the kinks.
In the meantime, job hunters should be sure to check out LinkUp, which posts jobs you won't find at Monster. And I've got some tips on improving your resume, too.
