Police search for gunman who killed 3 in Texas

HOUSTON - Three people are dead and two have been airlifted to hospitals after gunfire erupted inside a suburban Houston apartment Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunbury Downs Apartments in an unincorporated area 25 miles northwest of downtown Houston.

Two men and a woman died after each was shot in the head, and another man and woman were airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Trauma Institute in Houston with similar gunshot wounds, said sheriff's spokesman Alan Bernstein.

The two were still being evaluated in the hospital emergency room, hospital spokeswoman Alex Rodriguez said.

Deputies have no description of the gunman. Witnesses say a man shot the victims inside an apartment, closed the apartment door and fled, Bernstein said.

The shooting came 10 days after one at a house party in Cypress, another unincorporated area nearby. That shooting, which happened about seven miles from the apartment shooting, left two teenagers dead and 19 others injured. An 18-year-old man has been charged.
