Perfect Time for an Elevator Pitch?!?
We've been spending this week on elevator pitches, which raises a pertinent question: has anyone ever actually given an elevator pitch... in an elevator?
I'm hoping that most people realize that the term "elevator pitch" is symbolic rather than literal. It's symbolic rather than literal. I'm keep worrying that some novice sales guy is going to start riding the elevator at a hotel all day, hoping to find a prospect.
You're far more likely to find opportunities for "elevator pitches" at conferences and other social situations where you end up mingling with decision-makers whom you might otherwise not meet.
For example, Bob Carr, the CEO of Heartland Payment Systems, got funding for his startup as the result of a chance meeting at a wedding. It happens.
On the other hands, I suppose it's POSSIBLE that you MIGHT meet somebody on an actual elevator who might be an actual prospect. Maybe in a situation like this:
