(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON - The Pentagon says that some members of the military were either killed or wounded in the Colorado shooting at the Batman movie.
One sailor and two airman were wounded at the late night shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, the U.S. Defense Dept. found. One sailor is still unaccounted for.
Aurora is home to a large Defense Department satellite intelligence operation at Buckley Air Force Base.
In a statement, the Pentagon said the Navy and Air Force are "working with the families of these service members to ensure they have the care and attention they need."
"The Department of Defense is deeply saddened by the news of the tragic incident at the Aurora Mall Movie Theater in Aurora, Colo. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the families of those impacted by this event," the statement read.
The Pentagon also confirmed that James Holmes, the suspected gunman, was not a member of the military.
Holmes has been taken into custody in the deadly Denver-area shooting spree that killed 12 people and injured at least 50 others during a midnight showing of the movie Friday.
A law enforcement source told CBS News the suspect was well-equipped, with one rifle, two handguns, a knife, bulletproof vest, ballistic helmet, gas device, gas mask and military/SWAT-style clothing. There were also unidentified explosives found in his vehicle.
The FBI said there was no indication that the shooting is tied to any terrorist groups.
