Oscar-Winner Fraudster Sent to Prison

A man who scammed investors by posing as an Oscar-winning sound engineer is going to prison.

The U.S. Attorney's Office told the Contra Costa Times that 46-year-old Brice Carrington has been sentenced to four years behind bars.

Carrington, who was sentenced Friday, pleaded guilty to wire fraud and tax evasion in September.

Federal prosecutors say Carrington acknowledged faking a Hollywood career from 2001 to 2005 - going as far as having fake Oscar statues made - in order to attract investors, who thought Carrington was raising money for sound projects.

Instead, prosecutors say the bulk of the nearly $4 million he gathered went toward a new home and luxury cars.

He must also pay restitution to 13 victims and nearly $142,000 in income taxes.
