"GREEN UMBRELLAS FOR A GREEN CAUSE"
The plaza was decked out with green umbrellas to mark the launch of a Starbucks/Global Green USA campaign and auction, "Green Umbrellas for a Green Cause."
On hand to fill viewers in were Dan Lewis, Starbucks New York regional marketing manager, and Matt Petersen, Global Green USA president and CEO.
Dave Price, with the help of New york graffiti artist Phetus, will paint his own patio-size umbrella which, along with other celebrity-designed umbrellas, will be up for auction on eBay from May 21 to May 31.
This summer, the Starbucks green umbrellas are going to symbolically represent the start of a season of change. Starbucks and Global Green USA are calling on celebrities to be part of the change. Ten to 12 "A-list" celebs are going to be provided with a Starbucks umbrella as a "blank canvas" to express their thoughts about summer, climate change, and what a clean and green environment looks like to them.
Each of these umbrellas will then be auctioned off, and the proceeds will be matched by Starbucks to benefit Global Green. No matter what the bids, starbucks guarantees a donation of $25,000 to Global Green as a result of the promotion.
