Off-Duty Security Guard Thwarts Bank Robbery
An off-duty security guard who found himself in the middle of a bank robbery in Palm Bay, Fla., Thursday is being hailed a hero.
And it wasn't the first time.
The security cameras caught it all as Ruben Torres held the robber at gunpoint until police arrived.
Torres told "Early Show" co-anchor Harry Smith Friday that he'd seen the suspect pull a Wal-Mart bag over his head and "knew something was going down."
He told Smith, "It was time to go into action."
Torres, who has two licenses to carry a weapon, said he went out to his vehicle and then went back into the bank and faced the suspect after he'd taken money from the teller.
"He did what I told him to right away," Torres said. "He didn't argue. He didn't fight back or anything."
Not only did Torres save the day Thursday, he also pulled a gun on William Cruse, who shot and killed six people and wounded 14 in a Winn-Dixie grocery store in 1987.
