Need Driving Directions? Just Ask

High tech navigation for your car. Some car manufacturers have been offering pretty expensive GPS navigation options, but you can add a system that can be moved from vehicle to vehicle for considerably less money.

A new device called Avstar will be on the market soon...

"We are presenting a navigation system for the automobile that is completely voice interactive. In other words, there is no need to look at a screen. There's no need to touch anything."
Malcolm Hollombe of IVS, developer of Avstar. What you do is talk and the system responds in a human voice. Using GPS satellite signals, Avstar then tells you when there are turns approaching and guides you to your destination. The price... about 15 hundred dollars. The voice input and human voice response have some advantages over software and satellite receivers that work with notebook computers. But if you have a notebook, you can save a lot of money. TravRoute software sells a
system that offers voice navigation for under four hundred dollars. Delorme's Street Atlas USA has added that capability also. It sells for less than 200 dollars.

Bootcamp may be heard daily on many CBS Radio Network Stations.
