Motorola announces Droid RAZR, world's thinnest smartphone

(CBS) - Motorola Mobility announced the Droid RAZR today - a smartphone they're calling "impossibly thin."

"Say hello to DROID #RAZR by Motorola: The world's thinnest 4G LTE smartphone. DROID strong. RAZR sharp," @Motorola tweeted today.

My ears perked up immediately. Did they say RAZR? Yep.

The smartphone boasts a slender 7.1 mm body, dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and it's on Verizon's 4G LTE network. All of the bells and whistles are included, like an 8-megapixel photo and 1080p HD video camera. Even iPhone loyalists can't resist the sex appeal of the Droid RAZR.

"We set out to design the best smartphone on the planet and delivered Droid RAZR which is thinner, smarter, stronger than any device on the market," said chairman and chief executive officer of Motorola Mobility Sanjay Jha in a statement released today.

Aww. Let's reminisce about the old RAZR phone that I was not cool enough to own. Although, my mom still has one in pink and she's not giving it up for a smartphone. Ever.

The most impressive part of this announcement is that I'm affected emotionally by the nostalgia of the RAZR brand and simultaneously blown away at how thin the phone is. And here I thought skinny phones were a thing of the past.

Droid RAZR runs on Android Gingerbread and will be available in early November for $299.99 with a 2-year Verizon contract. Pre-orders start on October 27.

Now if we can only get it in hot pink, I could sway my mom. Ahem, Motorola, I'm looking at you!
