McCotter Gladly Continues Protest

While – weather permitting – his party takes to St. Paul next week, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI), chairman of the Republican House Policy Committee, will contentedly be in Washington, manning the helm of the ongoing Republicans House floor protest.

However, McCotter said if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi submits to Republican demands for Congress to be called back into session, the rest of his party would join him immediately. “We would leave our convention to come back,” he told Politico by phone.

Since the protest began on Aug. 1, the House Policy Committee has been coordinating the efforts, and divvying up the organizational responsibilities among the leadership. Last week, Minority Leader John Boehner and Minority Whip Roy Blunt shared the duties.

McCotter said he had no plans to attend the convention anyway, demurring, “My presence is not exactly critical.” He anticipates to be joined on the floor by other Republicans, but was not entirely sure who would participate or how many. So far, 131 Republican members have participated.
