McCain Spars With Letterman

(CBS)
From CBS News' John Bentley:

(NEW YORK) – After missing his last appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman" – something which Letterman has not let him forget – John McCain came back to do the show tonight and take his share of abuse from the host.

"I guess I don't need to tell you folks that on the program tonight, Sen. John McCain is our guest tonight," Letterman said during his monologue. "Yeah, maybe I won't show."

He did, as did McCain, who said he "screwed up" by not appearing on the show last month, when he decided to go to Washington, D.C., instead to work on the financial crisis. McCain unveiled yet another portion of his plan to get the economy on the right track by instituting a tax on the show's host.

"Now is not the time to raise anybody's taxes, except yours," McCain said to Letterman. "And I guarantee you that when I'm president, I'll do it! My first executive order."

You can see McCain's entire appearance tonight on "The Late Show."
