Mathis Salutes Warren

Does the name Diane Warren ring a bell? Her songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as Aerosmith, Toni Braxton, and Barbara Steisand. Now, add another famous name, Johnny Mathis. Mathis has a new album called Because You Loved Me - the Songs of Diane Warren.

Mathis says Warren is one of the phenomena of the business:
"You're very fortunate in this business if you have one hit. I've been so fortunate over the years that people recognize me singing songs like Maria, Chances Are, Twelfth of Never, and a few others -- Misty maybe.

And, Mathis adds, "Diane - she's had so many hit records, and everybody knows the songs but they are not sure who wrote them. And in fact, when I got a chance to sit down and talk to her about making this album, I said, 'you wrote that, too?' It's extraordinary what she has done."

Some of the most familiar that Mathis sings on the new Sony album are "Don't Take Away My Heaven," "Set The Night To Music," and "Unbreak My Heart."

In the past, Johnny Mathis has recorded albums saluting the music of Michel Legrand and Duke Ellington. Diane Warren is a three-time Oscar nominee and three-time winner of ASCAP's Songwriter of the Year Award.

Over the years, Mathis has had more than 60 gold and platinum album awards for worldwide sales and has released more than 100 albums.
