Man Shot by Father-in-Law Twice in 5 Years

DeSoto Parish sheriff's deputies say a man who refused to prosecute his father-in-law for a shooting five years ago has allegedly been shot by him again.

Cpl. Dusty Herring said 74-year-old Alvis McKinney was booked Wednesday with third-offense DWI as well as aggravated battery against 39-year-old Alvin Gentry.

Gentry is in LSU Hospital in Shreveport with a non-life-threatening bullet wound in his back.

Herring says McKinney told investigators that he did not realize he had shot Gentry until the younger man went down. He says Gentry and his wife were arguing outside their home, and McKinney told Gentry to leave, firing a warning round from his .22-caliber pistol - and fired a second shot after further argument among all three.
