Man at mental hospital dies after being stunned by Taser

BRADENTON, Fla. --A Florida man died early Wednesday after deputies stunned him with a Taser at a psychiatric hospital, authorities said.

The Seminole Herald-Tribune reported Manatee County deputies used the Taser because 39-year-old Christopher Erdman resisted when they tried to restrain him at Centerstone Behavioral Hospital in Bradenton.

Erdman was handcuffed and being prepared for transport when officials say he suffered a medical episode. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities told the newspaper an unidentified person had dropped Erdman off at the hospital and that when police arrived he was yelling and running around the lobby.

The deputies involved have been placed on routine administrative leave while the death is investigated.
