Malpractice Records on the Internet ?
Log-on to the Internet to peek at a physician's medical malpractice record.
The Medical Society of New Jersey opposes a Senate bill that would do just that. A state Senate committee yesterday approved the bill.
The bill would post doctor profiles, including education, experience, criminal convictions or disciplinary actions in the last decade, and malpractice judgments in the last five years.
The Medical Society says patients could be mislead by faulty information. The society also says if lawmakers want to release doctors' malpractice records, they should at least do the same with hospitals.
The bill's sponsor, Senate Democratic Leader Dick Codey, says ``no way'' will he appease the society and says he's confident the bill will pass the Senate.
